Ready For Battle
During the Philadelphia Campaign of 1777, George Washington (1732-1799) is defeated in battles at Brandywine and Germantown. This leads to the British capturing Philadelphia. Feeling the defeat, Washington knows he has to have his troops trained properly so that they can defeat the most powerful military. Washington marches his soldiers north towards Valley Forge. The only question is what would stop British General William Howe (1729-1814) from attacking again? Supplies, of course! They are scarce. Howe remains in Philadelphia until his supplies arrive. The supply ships have one problem. They are met just south of Philadelphia by three forts known as the Defense of the Delaware. Today, the flag still waves over the walls that bear the scars from intense battle with the British.
