“True Colors”
Everyday, we walk among the sea of people who, for the most part, dress the same, act the same all within guidelines that we deem acceptable for the societal culture. Everyone is afraid to step outside of these imaginary guidelines for society because we are afraid of what someone might think. We fear being judged. We are afraid of being judged by people that we may never see again....ever! My question is why?
I see it all the time. People trying to keep up with the latest fad. They have to buy the “merch” of who ever is being talked about the most. Some of this merchandise is useless junk that within ten years time, will be in a landfill somewhere. Behind all that is a millionaire. When it comes to millionaires that will slap their name on ANYTHING to make a buck, the king has got to be Kiss bass player, Gene Simmons. I have even seen a Kiss Kasket which doubles as a cooler while your alive. Don't get me wrong. I am not against being passionate for something you truly love. That is a whole different monster. I can not, in good conscience, call out the passionate. I am from Philadelphia and everybody knows how passionate we are about everything, especially our sports teams.
What I am referring to is all the energy people put into having to ride the latest wave of popularity. People are so afraid to be who they TRUELY are. Too many people will not show who they really are because they are afraid of the judgment of strangers. Here is the reality: Nobody Cares. No one is placing judgment on us. Why? Because they are all too busy thinking the same thing you are. Who is placing judgment on them. All this is in our own head. It's a waste of time and energy to worry about negative judgment. Yes, there are some people who DO judge, but if they ARE judging, they are not your friends and if they are not your friends, why bother wasting your time worrying about them. The people who judge are the ones who are insecure about themselves and they are placing THEIR insecurities on YOU. Steve Harvey once said "People's opinion of you is none your business. Nor should you make it yours."
There are better ways to spend your time and energy. Make an impression. We should not be afraid to stand out. That is what makes us memorable. Of the thousands of people we see everyday, think about the one you will never forget. Something made them stand out. Something set them apart from the rest of the crowd. That person was showing who they really are without fear of what others may say. They may have even gotten a compliment on it. Believe me, that compliment goes a long way in making someone feel good about themselves. To tell you the truth, that person probably will never forget the person that complimented them because of how it made them feel.
Positivity goes a long way and leads to great things. Not only to the person receiving the positivity, also to the person giving the positivity. We will always get what we give. So, the next time you're out and about, be brave, be bold, and never be afraid to show your True Colors.
