Suicide Hill

Ahhh winter time! Oh how it brings back fond memories of large amounts of snow and how much fun we had as kids playing in it. Every time I step in the thick packing snow, I make sure to step down hard and make that crunch sound. It always reminded me of one of the final scenes in Harry And The Hendersons. You remember, when Don Ameche is using Bigfoot boots to make tracks in the snow to confuse the enemy.

Growing up in Philadelphia, my next-door neighbor, Victor, was always very creative when it came to the snow fall. One year he built a small snow fort in front of our houses for us kids to play in. Another year I was walking through my house, passing my back window when something caught my eye from the corner. Victor had built a full-blown Igloo. Then he even carefully carved lines into the outside of it to make it look like giant blocks. I went inside to take a look and it was the COOLEST thing I have ever seen, pun FULLY intended!

I think anyone could agree that one of our favorite pastimes when it snows is to go sledding. We can’t just go out front and sled! What fun would that be? No, we have to go to Suicide Hill. Speeding down the hill only to climb back up and try and do it faster! The ride down was so much fun that always forget about the Mount Everest climb back up to the summit.

These boys, on the other hand, have taken it to the next level. Ten boys, linked together to increase the weight, therefore increasing the speed, which also increases the fun. When you have bunny hops like this, it becomes a mission to hold on as long as humanly possible. Last one to go all the way down wins!

Oh how I envy them and reflect fondly on my days of playing in the snow.
