The Walls Remember Poster – Concept & Description

The Walls Remember poster is the final piece of The Fort Mifflin Collection trilogy and represents the lasting legacy of the 1777 Siege of Fort Mifflin. While the first two posters focus on the human experience of the soldiers who defended the fort and the intensity of the battle itself, this final design shifts the focus to the fortification as the witness that remains.

‍ ‍The concept is built around the idea that the physical walls of Fort Mifflin are not simply structures made of stone and earth — they are historical records. Every crack, scar, and surviving mark represents a moment in time: the bombardment from British warships and batteries, the endurance of the Continental defenders, and the sacrifices made during one of the most intense engagements of the American Revolution.

‍ ‍The poster intentionally avoids portraying the fort as a monument frozen in the past. Instead, it presents Fort Mifflin as a storyteller — a place that has endured for nearly 250 years and continues to preserve the memories of those who stood within its walls. The imagery is meant to encourage visitors to look closer at the fort itself and consider the question: What stories are still waiting to be discovered?

‍ ‍Historically, Fort Mifflin’s role in the 1777 Siege was not a traditional battlefield victory. The garrison was ultimately forced to evacuate after weeks of bombardment, but their resistance delayed the British advance, protected the Delaware River supply route, and contributed to the larger strategic effort of the Continental Army during a critical moment of the Revolution.

The Walls Remember serves as the emotional conclusion of the collection — a reminder that while the soldiers, officers, and civilians who experienced the siege are gone, the place where their story unfolded still remains. The walls continue to carry the evidence, the memory, and the legacy of those who defended Fort Mifflin.
